AN INTRODUCTION

iStock_000002816956XSmall.jpgThe GEM PhD School exist as a separate - if intertwined - entity from the various scholarship programmes it encompasses. The innovative academic opportunities and training obligations it provides students over the span of their 3-to-4 year research endeavour are the same for all admitted candidates, regardless of their financial arrangements.

As many other highly competitive academic programmes, the GEM PhD School distinguishes between admission into the programme - which is a purely academic affair; and funding issues – which although one of the programme's central concerns still remains secondary to the admissions question.

It is only after its academic selection that the GEM PhD School's Board of Directors moves on to funding considerations. At this point, the Board of Directors decides on the allocation of available scholarships within the list of academically admitted applicants. Said allocation is determined by both the applicants' personal profile; as well as the funding authorities' specifications. By unanimous decision the GEM PhD School's Board of Directors validates its proposed scholarship allocation and submits it for formal approval to the relevant sponsoring instances.
